Asante-Akim assembly privatizes its revenue collection

AASDA
The Asante-Akim South District Assembly as part of measures to improve its revenue collection performance has invited private participation.

The Assembly, which has over the years missed almost every revenue target it had set, has contracted Heinz Integrated Limited, an Accra-based private firm, to undertake revenue collection on its behalf.

Under the four-year deal the Assembly would receive 68 per cent of total money collected.

The agreement is subject to renewal every year, based on performance and efficiency.

Again, all existing revenue collectors on commission are to be absolved by the company alongside the recruitment of more local people.

The agreement was approved by the Assembly at a marathon emergency meeting held at Juaso.
Mr. De-graft Forkuo, District Chief Executive (DCE), said he was hopeful that there was going to be significant improvement in the Assembly’s internally generated funds (IGF).

Through that they would be able to undertake more development program to transform the lives of the people.

He said the expectation is that, the company would deliver and warned of the termination of the contract, should it fail to perform.

The DCE applauded the Assembly members for the bold decision.

Mr. Ignatius Amoah, Managing Director of the Company, said a feasibility study conducted by his company showed that the prospects were good and said the agreement would be a “win-win” for both parties.

Ghana bailout proposal goes to IMF Executive Board in February

IMF
Ghana's quest for technical and financial assistance from Washington-based International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to attain a milestone when proposals reach the Fund's Executive Board next month.

Deputy Finance Minister, Cassel Ato Forson, revealed this on News file news analysis program Saturday, January 17, 2015.

"I can confirm to you today that we've reached an agreement as long as the policy objective is concerned; we've reached an agreement as long as memorandum of economic and financial policy is concerned. The IMF is only working with us to finalize it and go to the board next month", said Mr Forson.

Mr Forson was reacting to a comment by co-panelist, former Deputy Finance Minister, Anthony Akoto-Osei, that the IMF programmed has taken too long to come.

Mr Akoto-Osei said delays in striking a deal with the Breton-Woods institution is a sign that a possible Fund program will be a botch endeavor or derailed at best.

However, Mr Forson disagreed with that assertion: "The IMF program is not derailed. It's on track, we are hopeful, we know the next board meeting, we are going to have it [meeting] and we are going to conclude".

When bailout proposals reach the IMF Executive Board, it will be a significant step in Government's effort to clinch a possible Fund program.

This is because the Fund's 24-member Executive Board made up of all 188 member-countries play a key role in decisions on a possible Fund program for member states.

The IMF Executive Board normally makes decisions based on consensus, but sometimes formal votes are taken. At the end of most formal discussions, the Board issues what is known as a summing up, which summaries its views.

Initial reports had suggested that a 2015 deadline for a possible Fund program could be elusive since a timeline for a when proposals would reach the Executive Board was nonexistent.

I won’t fight Bukom Banku again – Ayitey Powers

BANKU & POWERS
Boxer cum comedian, Michael Aryee Aryitey, also known as Ayitey Powers, has promised not to fight his friend, Braimah Kamoko a.k.a Bukom Banku again.

His reason, he said, stems from the fact that they hardly make a substantial amount of money from boxing bouts.

He cited incidents in which he had to chase several promoters for his money after boxing bouts with Bukom Banku.

The two Bukom based boxers shot to fame in the first quarter of 2014 after their twice rescheduled boxing bout became the toast of Ghanaians.

When the bout finally came on, it was Bukom Banku who emerged as the winner, sweeping away the price money at stake.

This has led to conclusions that Ayitey Powers is never a match for Bukom Banku but he insists he is just determined not to fight with his ‘new friend’ again.

“Bukom Banku and me, we are now very close and we would not like to fight each other because we don’t get anything from our fights…,” he told Adom fm’s Kofi Adomah Nwanwani in an interview.

There are two charging systems for the car- an external charging system and an internal charging system. The internal charging system uses an extra accumulator to power an invertor and the invertor simultaneously charges the 12 batteries while the car is accelerating. The internal charging is manual and can be switched on or off when the car is in motion.

The external charging system uses 144Vwhich makes it suitable for the world market. The charging modes are Quick Charge Mode and an Overnight Charge Mode. The Quick Charge Mode takes a maximum of 15 minutes to complete the charging and the Overnight Charge Mode takes a maximum of three hours to complete the charging. Osei Palmer defends GFA’s decision to start Premier League in AFCON period

Ghana League
Ghana FA Executive Committee member, Wilfred Kwaku Osei Palmer has defended the FA’s decision to kick start the 2014/2015 Ghana Premier League on the opening day of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, stating that the nation’s football governing body had to adhere to some provisions in the contracts of the sponsors of the domestic top flight.

The widely held view amongst pundits is that the unattractiveness of the local league will make it difficult to compete with the AFCON 2015 over patronage and match attendance during the continental tournament’s 23-day period.

“We have signed a deal with Supersport for TV rights and First Capital Plus, the league’s headline sponsor and it is stated in the contracts that there are certain deadlines that we have to meet as an FA and we can’t risk losing all the sponsors,” Osei Palmer told Montie FM.

“Our Premier League wasn’t supposed to start this month but in September last year but because of the court case we are in the AFCON month. But, the question is, do we wait for the AFCON to end before we start out league for 2014/2015?” the Black Satellites Management Committee Chairman added.

The Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament will run for three weeks and will cover six match-days in the Ghana Premier League, with the final of the continental championship being played on the same day as Ghana’s El Clasico between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in Kumasi on February 8.

There are fears that Kotoko’s epic clash with Hearts at the Baba Yara Stadium could fail to attract a high turn out if the Black Stars manage to sail through to the final of the AFCON 2015.

Akufo-Addo fires up Stars to end 33-yr AFCON trophy drought

AKUFO ADDO
The Flag bearer of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaian to rally around the senior national football team in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea to end the West African country’s 33-year trophy drought at the continental showpiece.

“With determination and hard work from our players, the technical team and management, and the unflinching support of all of us, I strongly believe that the Black Stars can end the trophy drought that has left Ghana unable to win the Africa Cup of Nations since we last won it thirty three years ago,” the former Attorney General said in a goodwill message to the team.

Ghana, who are tour-time African champions, have not won the AFCON title since the 1982 tournament in Libya.

The Stars open their Group C campaign with an anticipated tough match against Senegal on Monday under new coach Avram Grant, who has not been given any specific task of winning the tournament by the Ghana Football Association.

In his short goodwill statement issued Sunday January 18, 2015, Akufo-Addo said: “I wish the senior national football team, the Black Stars, the very best of luck as they prepare to play Senegal, on Monday, January, 19, 2015, in Group Cs opening match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, currently taking place in Equatorial Guinea.

“I urge all Ghanaian to rally behind Captain Asamoah Gyan and our players, and the Avram Grant-led technical team. Go for Gold!!”

"Best of luck! God bless!"

Ghc30m SSNIT money missing?

SSNIT
Speculations are rife within the corridors of SIMNET that the Ghc30million paid by the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) at the instance of a Court has neither reflected in the accounts of the ICT firm nor its parent company, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The above-mentioned amount with interest was advanced to the ICT firm for delayed payment of invoices. Lawyers for SIMNET led by Mr. Tony Lithur are currently in court pursuing the NLA for US$45million as damages for breach of contract between the two entities.

The suspicion was occasioned by the influential personalities behind SIMNET using their political connections to maneuver their way through. A former Board Chairman of the NLA, Dr. Sali Agbozo, in an interview with Citi Eyewitness News last week over the matter said the management of the NLA might have been intimidated by SIMNET because of the political personalities behind the firm.

Dr. Agbozo insisted that the SIMNET contract was never terminated and wondered why the ICT firm was in court again pursuing the NLA for additional $45million having already won GH¢30 million with interest from the lottery regulator.

He explained that when he took over in 2009, they were supposed to complete an automation of the lottery system with the aim of halting the lapses in the system.

He said: “before we got there, there has been various correspondences between NLA and SIMNET to bring more portable point of sale terminals for the lotto business,” adding that “NLA before our tenure had already gone to PPA to secure approval for the purchase of 2,000 point of sale terminals for the lotto business.”

He said they later increased the number of terminals to 10,000 “because we need to cover the whole country. We actually corresponded with them [SIMNET] on several occasions to bring in more terminals, and we informed them that we were ready to go and purchase terminals…we didn’t hear from them so we acted as such.”

He said even after securing the terminals, they wrote a letter to SIMNET informing them of the move “and for that matter, we assured them that we will run our business whereby they will operate their equipment and the NLA too will handle their own business, so we never terminated any contract with them.”

“What happened was that they were unhappy, so they were using various means to frustrate us,” he was quoted as saying by Citi Eyewitness News. He added: “because they owed SIMNET, they issued post-dated cheques, which SIMNET was cashing”.

He said his outfit later told SIMNET to submit an IT audit report, but the situation ended up in court, adding that, “when we requested the audit, they refused to comply and before we realized they took us to court,” he lamented adding, “we told the court that if they do the audit we will pay them.”

According to our sources, sometime in 2011, the Board of NLA, in keeping with best practices, called for an audit of the SIMNET process in order to ascertain that all was well with the SIMNET infrastructure and that, Ghana was not losing revenue.

This request was informed by a data analysis performed by Ernst and Young on existing sampled lottery data, which raised some fundamental concerns, including training machines, trading and paying wins and other issues.

However, SIMNET was said to have refused to co-operate with the audit process as they cited witch-hunting, among other concerns.

The Board of NLA, as a result, decided to withhold payments from SIMNET in view of SIMNET’s refusal to co-operate with the audit process, which development led to a significant bad-blood developing between SIMNET and the NLA Board, which forced SIMNET to proceed to court to seek redress.

Sources within SSNIT and NLA said both parties agreed in court to recruit an independent firm (a firm other than Ernst & Young) to undertake the audit exercise, which finally led to the granting of SIMNET’s request of some payment of its overdue invoices to be made by the NLA to enable them meet some operational commitments, which this paper learnt, was honoured by the NLA.

Our information is that, whilst the court proceedings and the audit process continued, SIMNET unilaterally shut down the lottery system in the first week of October 2012, informing first NLA via SMS followed by a letter.

The Chronicle is well informed that this was done to embarrass the NLA leadership and to create a crisis situation for the NLA as the INGENICO program was not yet fully implemented to serve as a viable alternative, a development which made the NLA’s revenue suffering a dent.

The dip in revenue was short-lived, according to inside sources, because the Board had earlier initiated the implementation of the LOTS-Services platform, which brought the needed extra capacity to absorb the displaced retailers from the SIMNET platform.

It would be recalled that, Dr. Agbodzo, Board Chairman at the time, addressed a press conference to explain and to apologize for the disturbances in the services that were occasioned by the shutdown and announced that, the NLA would find alternative solutions to the situation in the absence of SIMNET platform.

Judgment on the lawsuit was not delivered before the appointment of a new Board by President John Dramani Mahama, when he took over the Presidency.

As the matter progressed in Court, both parties, the NLA and SIMNET, agreed on the appointment of Price Waterhouse, as another expert, to conduct another independent audit following disagreements on some aspects of the work done by KPMG.

Price Waterhouse was said to have extracted data from the system to do their work and after the completion of the first draft, SIMNET protested that additional data was available that needed to be taken into account and requested another extraction of data by Price Water House.

The Chronicle is informed that after this second extraction, SIMNET became satisfied and the final report submitted by Price Water House favored SIMNET, while the judge ruled that, the delayed invoices be paid with interest and the NLA was believed to have paid this amount to SIMNET estimated at thirty million Ghana Cedis (GHc 30 million).

Included in this amount, this paper learnt, is another two million Ghana Cedis (GHc 2 million) paid to SIMNET as the legal fees for their lawyers.

I Was Living With Insects and Frogs – I Slept In Kitchens and Uncompleted Buildings – Shatta Wale Opens Up About His Past!

SHATTA WALE
Award winning Dancehall act, Shatta Wale was on e.TV’s The Late Nite Celebrity Show to share his story as a music maker.

The Everybody Like My Tin singer sharing the bit of his life before his comeback to his current fame and glory revealed to Giovani Caleb:

“From Bandana to Shatta Wale was a long journey, I was at a place no one wanted to be; at some point, I was living with insects, frogs and when I remember that now – it fills my eyes with tears.

“I was living at a place where an artist was not supposed to live. That was when I bought myself a small computer, a Pentium two and a keyboard and told myself I wanted to learn how to play beats.

“Because any time I went to any studio to record; right after I left, they will delete my song – apart from the money which was hard to come by then, I still tried to pay. And I was like “wow, this shouldn't be happening to me” and anytime I wanted to protest, they will go like Dancehall is not something people in Ghana will want to listen to. But I kept telling them ‘this was what my spirit wanted me to do.

So when I bought my computer, I was always in the room alone around Sakaman playing beats and recording the songs and show it to people. Some will laugh at me and say ‘Oh! This one you wouldn't get anywhere and you won’t make money… Try and do what others are doing.”

I was like it’s not all about the money – this is what I want to put to the youth of Ghana, that you can be what you want to be. Money will come when God sees how hard you are working.

“Things was so bad even my girlfriend at the time told me I wasn't classic enough and decided to go for a classy boyfriend and I was like wow – This was the Megye Wo Girl happening in real life.

“I had to move from one area to another area and met friends who promised they were going to help me and offered me places to live and all that.

“I slept in people’s halls and kitchens. Sometimes I need to squeeze myself into peoples veranda’s. And there was times when my friend’s girlfriends came around and I had to sit outside and wait with all these mosquitoes.

“And even if I got one girl who was feeling me in that kind of way and wanted to support me small and I wanted to enjoy some [fleeting pleasures of the flesh] and I couldn't afford a hotel, so I just find one small uncompleted building and do it quick quick.

“It was crazy but I really had to be strong. I’m the type I don’t really worry about problems. Because looking back I realized I was the one who brought all the problems I was facing upon myself. I decided to leave home at that very tender age – my dad didn't disown me. I was rather stubborn with what I had wanted to do. That’s how God created me.”

Nadia Speaks: Mona AKA Hajia4Real Is A Scammer!

NADIA BUZAID
Well, a lady just sent us this new message and according to her, she is the ex girlfriend of Adams.

The lady who goes by the name Naida Buzaid says she is a model who lives in Los Angeles, USA and claims she was dating Adams when Mona begun scamming him.

Full text of Nadia Buzaid below..

Mona is a very big criminal, a liar and someone who has no sympathy for people.
To start with, I am a french born Lebanese model and I met everstone sometime in 2009 when he visisted paris from New York. We dated for a while in Paris before I decided to joint him in New York City.
Then in the summer of 2010 I realize Everstone was sending a lot of money to Ghana. Usually he doesn't send more than a certain amount. I realized that his attitude towards our relationships changed and I was thinking that perhaps, he has a problem with his family. So one day I was chatting with his sister I think her name was Fairuza mahama and she told me about the girl Mona. After the chat with fairuza, I went through Everstone’s Facebook (I was having his Facebook account) and it was there that I found out what was going on.

Everstone confirmed to me when I confronted him about Mona and from that day, Mona and I became swan enemies. I have attached here, a screenshot of our fight on Facebook as you can see from the chat screen dated on July 2011. This is to show that Everstone is not lying and besides, he is a very reputable executive who supervise more than 1500 people in a multi-billion company. I have known him long before mona.

From the beginning, I knew this girl was a fraud who doesn't care about the feeling of another human being. what Everstone did for her within 6 months, I never had that. From what I later learnt, after they duped him from Chicago and they realize that he was getting wised up, then they started calling people to liar on him that he was an arm robber and that was the worst part of it all.

I am a witness to all this. There was a time when Everstone lives in Chicago and work in New York. Can you believe that? He wakes up early morning and catch a flight to New York and then had to fly back again to Chicago on the same day in order to be with this girl. No wonder she was insulting me from the beginning so that she could take him and scam him. Mona is a disgrace to womanhood…

people needs to know who sure is and they should look at our fight screenshots during those days and know that everything everstone said is true everstone has a fake sister in Chicago and she was the worst. after the scammed him, they tried to frame him that he was a criminal and arm robber.

And they started calling people back in Ghana framing stories about him. Everstone sister called Fairuza would called and big telling me about all the shit that was going on. Its a shame because he told me he was only trying to help a poor girl.
